Felisa was born in the cold lands of Ávila. She arrived with the spring, bringing a splash of colour and happiness. A brave little girl with no fear, always looking after her brothers and sisters, even though she was one of the youngest.
She was always helping her father, who travelled around the surrounding villages selling all kinds of household goods. Felisa was a delicate girl with a warrior’s heart.
After the Civil War, she learned how to survive and feed her family with almost nothing. With just a few potatoes, she could prepare a delicious stew. Over the years, she became the queen of the kitchen, known for her wonderful roasts and unforgettable tortilla de patata.
For Felisa, cooking has always been a love language. She has taught her granddaughters her recipes, sharing not just the ingredients and methods, but a little piece of herself with every dish. Her cooking has never been about having a lot, but about making the most of what you have, putting your heart into it, and making people feel at home.
Over the years, she wrote her recipes on little scraps of paper, keeping them tucked away like small treasures. I gathered all those precious notes and turned them into a recipe book, so that the things she taught me, the flavours of my childhood as a little girl, and a little piece of her could live on for generations to come.
Her cooking is honest and simple. She can make so much out of so little, yet somehow, every dish leaves you with something money cannot buy: a full heart, a sense of peace, and the feeling that everything is going to be alright.
